More Luxury for Less

I feel pampered when I have a soak in a hot bath and a pedicure. Unfortunately my current bathtub is very shallow making it difficult to enjoy a good soak, but I still have my pedis. I do the pedi myself, always have. I know a lot of people pay to have them done, but ultimately, it takes the same amount of time and energy to do it myself, without the added cost.

I started doing pedis in 2004 after I kept hearing my mind say "paint your toenails red". After hearing that for the umpteenth time, I decided I might as well do it even though I'd not painted my toenails since I was a kid. Surprisingly I was thrilled with the results. Now don't go getting all freaked out because I did what the voice in my head told me to do. We all have chatter in our heads. What is challenging, and most rewarding, is when we are able to separate our inner guidance (helping us to live our best lives) from our monkey mind (incessant chatter directing us away/distracting us from our path). I like to think of it as my soul directing me. Showing yet again that joy and happiness is something we can create for ourselves.

Regardless, pretty toes are a great way to start the week. :)

How do you feel most pampered? Is it indulging in a high end or pricey item or service? Or is it something you do for yourself? Or when have you listened to that little voice in your head that kept telling you to do something you thought was odd, but when you did it gave you loads of pleasure?

  1. I will not put that kind of money out for something I can do so inexpensively for myself. A massage is something I like to go have occasionally, but nails such a little thing to do that makes me smile every time I look at my toes.

  2. Pretty toes are essential. They are happiness. They are the meaning of life. Nothing puts me in a good mood faster than seeing my painted toes hit the floor in the morning.

    Nice color.

  3. Vanilla, You are absolutely right about the massage. It's been so long since I had one that it didn't even occur to me. Sad isn't it?

  4. Tish, Love your comment about seeing your painted toes hit the floor. The first time I painted mine (as an adult) I got out of bed and pulled on some leggings. When I saw my painted beauties emerge from the leggings I thought, look at you pretty things! :)

  5. One of the things I miss most in my tiny little studio is having a bathtub. All I have is a walk-in shower and long, warm baths are one of my favorite ways of pampering myself. I'm due to move in a few weeks though so that should be rectified shortly. :-)

  6. I can't figure out why, but my red nail polish is somehow the one with far more staying power than the other colors. I've tried buying the same type in a different shade, and it's just not the same. I guess toes just like to be red :)
I don't spend much money on pampering at all. But if I can wake in the morning and take the time to do my hair and make-up and find something half decent to wear (after a shower, obviously!) then it does put me in a better frame of mind for the day. And in the evening, being in bed half an hour early so I can read a little before lights out, is bliss.

  7. Yes - an affordable luxury. I have pitched all nail polishes except for the Sally Hansen All in One Manicure type -- it has unbelievable wear and doesn't chip.

I so enjoy reading your sweet comments.
